Cheddar is a village at the foot of the famous Cheddar Gorge with
its towering limestone cliffs make it one of Britain's natural
showpieces; the finest views of the gorge are obtained by approaching
from the north.
There are more than 400 holes or caves in the area, and the larger
ones, visitors can see stalactites and stalagmites rich in colour and
fantastic shapes. Cheddar cheese originated from here more than 300
years ago.
