Beaminster stands at the head of Dorset's "Hidden Valley" the historic Vale of River Brit with beautiful countryside, rare wild flowers, badger sets, old water mills and glorious walks. Beaminster is a charming place to stop for shopping, browsing or to sample the local fare from around the town. The fine square of Beaminster is surrounded by 17th and 18th-century houses, and the noble Perpendicular tower of St Mary’s Church reflects the wealth of the town’s medieval wool industry.

Thomas Hardy used the town as a location in his novels drawing on the views and people to create his stories.

About a mile north of Beaminster. A track with downland views runs east to Chantrv. then north to Buckham Down. From the cross roads at the eastern end of Beaminster Down, there are several interconnected circular walks from 1 to 5 miles long.
